THE BEGINNING…
In 1987, a group of Omega Men of the Theta Alpha Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity saw the need to offer financial assistance to youth and families in the Dallas metroplex. Theta Alpha Foundation, a Texas nonprofit corporation chartered on May 15, 1987, is a 501©(3)-community service organization. The Foundation became operative June 1989.
Theta Alpha is a manifestation of a desire to find an appropriate conduit for active philanthropic support of deserving community-based projects.
Although Foundation funds are generally targeted to the minority and disadvantaged communities, the Foundation Board of Directors seeks to assist in as many community projects as funds allow.
Its seven member Board of Directors manages the affairs of the organization and the Corporation has no members.
The foundation maintains an office at 2880 LBJ Freeway in Dallas, Texas 75234.
THE PURPOSE…
The major purpose of the Theta Alpha Foundation is to provide educational opportunities to deserving disadvantaged youth; to foster character development, interest in reading, mathematics, engineering, teaching as a profession; and business ownership:
Encourage exploration of African American contributions to the community fabric; to provide opportunities for social interaction and research; to provide opportunities for increased African American involvement in the arts; and, to encourage programs of regular physical activity that involves adults and at-risk children.
TYPES OF CONTRIBUTIONS…
Restricted gifts designated by the Foundation Board are Lifetime membership Funds and Endowed Scholarship. Only earnings from these funds are available for these projects.
Non-restricted gifts are used as directed by the Foundation Board to meet financial obligations of the Foundation.
Funds contributed are tax deductible under provisions of IRS Code 501 ©3 and are accepted not only from organization members, but also individuals or businesses that want to support the foundation.
